Find the Right Orthodontic Treatment for You
Orthodontics addresses irregularities of the teeth, such as poor alignment, occlusion, overbite, and overcrowding. It’s not just for aesthetics — orthodontics makes sure you have a proper bite, allowing you to chew and speak properly.
An orthodontic treatment applies continuous pressure on your teeth, which causes them to move and align perfectly. Our orthodontists in the Upper East Side will determine the right orthodontic treatment for your situation, considering your preferences.
Braces vs. Invisalign: What’s the Difference?
The most common question that our NYC orthodontists get is: what’s the difference between braces and Invisalign? These treatments have two fundamental differences.
- Braces. Traditional metal braces are visible and noticeable. They’re made of metal brackets attached to the teeth, with an archwire running across each bracket. You can get brackets that closely match the color of the teeth’s enamel, but they are still conspicuous.
- Invisalign. In contrast, Invisalign is designed to be unnoticeable. The aligners are made of clear polyurethane, so they hardly change the appearance of your smile.
- Braces. You cannot remove metal braces from your teeth. The brackets and wires are attached to the teeth 24 hours a day. And you’ll wear them for about 18 months to 3 years to get the desired results.
- Invisalign. The clear aligners are completely removable, and you’ll wear them from 6 to 18 months. However, for the treatment to be successful, you have to wear them for at least 22 hours a day or as directed by our orthodontist.
Both braces and Invisalign are excellent choices for orthodontic treatments. Our Manhattan dentists will help you determine the right one for you.
